Welcome to our Beechfield web pages.

Beechfield is a secure children's home for young people. We have been specialising in the welfare needs of young people since 1983.

It is one of a limited number of homes in the UK dedicated to the care of young people placed in secure accommodation because of welfare issues.

Set in the beautiful West Sussex/Surrey borders near Crawley, Beechfield is a national resource owned and managed by West Sussex County Council for young people.

  • At Beechfield we have worked hard to create a safe, calm, homely atmosphere in which young people who have suffered abuse and neglect can learn to view the world with renewed trust.

  • Beechfield has opted not to contract placements to the Youth Justice Board for young offenders.

  • There are numerous outdoor activities available. There are also courtyards which ideal for activities such as ball games and, weather permitting, barbecues.

  • We actively encourage individuals to join in craft activities and hobbies. There is always plenty for our young people to do indoors.

  • At Beechfield we have a dedicated vocational area, which includes a fully fitted design and technology workshop and a further secure area.

  • All our young people - based on a risk assessment and local authority approval - have access to a mobility programme. This enables them to spend time outside of the secure environment of Beechfield.

  • We use a series of behaviour management tools at Beechfield. These aid both our staff and the young people to understanding the young people's behaviour.

  • Our team has a proven track record in enabling young people to engage and make great leaps forward in their own attainment.

  • At Beechfield we recognise the vital importance of equipping our young people with the life skills they will need to face the future.

  • We can accommodate 7 young people at a time. We have beautiful grounds, with a garden area and an extensive wooded area, and each young person has their own bedroom..

  • Each young person has their own key worker to make sure that their care plan is being adhered to. We also provide effective health care.

  • We have always specialised in the welfare needs of young people, and we have built up quite a reputation over the years. Find out what Ofsted thought in their recent inspection.

  • Two former residents of Beechfield talk about their time in the secure unit, and how it changed their lives for the better. Watch their stories and take a guided tour around the excellent facilities.
