Meals on Wheels
The Meals on Wheels service in West Sussex is delivered by the
Royal Voluntary Service(RVS). The RVS is a charity that has helped
older people stay independent at home and active in their local
community for over 75 years.
The Meals on Wheels service not only provides essential
nutritious meals but also vital human contact to older people
across the county.
Royal Voluntary Service Meals on Wheels teams not only deliver
much needed meals but also conduct Safe and Well checks. Without
these vital services older people can be at increased risk of
malnourishment, dehydration or acute loneliness.
RVS West Sussex Meals on Wheels are serviced by two centres, one
in Crawley and the second in Rustington, please see the attached
map below of what centre services which areas.
About the service
The service is based upon 3 options for customers. A chilled
meal being served to the customer along with the option to have
your meal cooked for you in your own home by one of our service
assistants or drivers to cook the meal in one of our specially
adapted vehicle. As your needs change, so does the service which is
fully flexible to suit your requirements.
There are over 20 different hot meals to choose from, plus
salads. Additionally locally produced afternoon tea packs are
available which include a sandwich or a bap, together with a daily
cake choice. These are delivered alongside the main meals to
customers on a daily basis should you wish.
Deliveries are made by a mix of volunteers and paid drivers, all
of which are checked by the Disclosure and Barring Service
(previously CRB), and all carry identification badges.
