Wheels Service a resounding thumbs-up.
- 95% of residents were very satisfied or satisfied with the
service.
- 90% of residents voted the meals excellent value.
- 90% were happy to recommend the service to others.
- Nearly 80% said their meals were always hot.
- Over a third relied on a friend, carer or neighbour to provide
a main meal when they weren’t using the service.
- Without the service, nearly 3% of residents didn’t eat a main
meal.
"Thank you for all your hard work and the brilliant Meals on Wheels
service provided." Customer
According to the 2010 report by the
National Association of Care Catering (NACC), one in 10
elderly people in Britain are at risk of malnutrition. By 2026 the
number of West Sussex residents aged over 85 will increase by over
50%.
As a consequence, West Sussex County Council, in partnership
with WRVS, is one of a dwindling number of local authorities
to remain committed to the service.
We also want residents who choose to access the service to
benefit in health and wellbeing. Our dietician-approved menus aim
to give at least a third of people's requirements for energy,
calcium, iron, zinc, folate and vitamin C.
For first-time customers we are offering a special five-day
selection of meals and desserts for only £15.00. For more details
on this introductory offer please see our leaflet below.

What we provide
"I think that Meals on Wheels is a
super service. I cannot stand or walk well but if I could,
I would help." Customer
We provide hot and cold meals, desserts,
soups, sandwiches and an afternoon tea service with homemade cakes.
This is all with free home delivery on Mondays to Fridays between
11.30am–1.30pm. The service is very flexible and we also provide
the same meals frozen. They are easily cooked in the oven or in the
microwave.
With every delivery, our caring
WRVS
drivers carry out a
check to make sure those who use the service are safe and well.
This provides the customer with the chance to chat to a friendly
face and vital reassurance for friends and relatives.
"I would like to thank the two delivery people who found
me unconscious on the floor and called for an ambulance. I am very
grateful; their actions saved my life." Customer
We have listed the current Meals on Wheels menus below,
including the afternoon tea service. The menus are rotated on a
four-weekly basis, so if you decide to order Meals on Wheels you
will be informed about which particular week’s menu you can choose
from. You can then take it from there.
