Contact us (about an adult)
You can contact us by email,
phone, fax, textphone, letter, or by visiting us.
Or you may prefer someone - such as a friend or your GP - to
contact us for you.
Each area in West Sussex has one, or sometimes two,
operational offices and a help desk. The first time you contact us,
or if you are calling about something new, you will speak to
specially trained help desk staff.
They will ask you a few basic questions about your situation so
that they can find out how we can best help. They can also give you
information about other social care services in your area. You can
find out more in 'When you first contact us'.
Please let us know if you have any special access or
communication needs. This will help you to tell us what you need in
the most appropriate way.

Emergency contact out of office hours
We provide a helpline for social care emergency situations that
cannot wait until the local offices are open.
Phone: 01903 694422
The helpline is available weekdays between 5.00pm and 8.00am.
Weekends and bank holidays are covered 24 hours a day until 8.00am
the next working day.
Our out of hours team covers the whole of West
Sussex. For adults, it deals with:
- urgent assessments under the Mental Health Act, in conjunction
with appropriate doctors; and
- immediate threats to a vulnerable adult's safety or
welfare.
Other type of emergencies, such as financial assistance or housing
emergencies, are not within our remit.
Your call will go through to our answering service, run by
Harmoni Ltd. They will only want your name and a contact number as
they will pass your details as quickly as possible to our duty
manager, who will ring you back as soon as they can. Please note
there may be a delay during busy periods.
The duty manager will try to deal with the call over the phone,
where possible. If they decide an urgent, complex assessment is
needed they will ask a qualified social worker to do this.
