Fire Cadet Scheme

West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service's Fire Cadets programme is based at Haywards Heath Fire Station and is a unique opportunity for keen, enthusiastic young people aged 15-18 who have an interest in the Fire Service. Led by experienced Fire Fighters the right candidates will get the chance to take part in a variety of different sessions including, service structure, life on a fire station, fire investigation and science, fire service drills and first aid as well the chance to represent West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service at public events across the county.

The process has now been changed to a 'Rolling Programme' introducing a module based scheme where students complete two units to successfully pass as a Fire Cadet. There is no set finishing date or completion time line for this new procedure.

Places are limited and if you wish to apply please contact our Youth Initiative Team, details below, with your name, address, date of birth, e-mail address and a contact telephone number.

The Fire Cadet Scheme is for young people who:

  • enjoy working in a team;
  • are fit, energetic, and enjoy practical outdoor tasks;
  • want to help and support others;
  • would like to achieve a nationally recognised accreditation;
