Childminders
A childminder provides care and early education through play for
children aged 7 and under for more than 2 hours a day from their
own home.
Children aged 8 and over are not included in the number of
children a childminder is registered for, but will be taken into
account in the overall numbers of the children in the home, as will
the childminder's own children. All childminders
must be registered with Ofsted.
Childminder networks
An approved childminding network is a group of childminders who
are recruited, assessed and monitored by a network coordinator.
They must meet the quality standards of the 'Children Come First'
quality assurance scheme.
They attend a minimum of 3 days' training a year and the network
coordinator will carry out regular monitoring visits, as well as
unannounced visits.
Childminders on an approved childminding network may also be
accredited to offer the free entitlement (early years education)
for children aged 3 and 4.
For information on all childminders, as well as
approved childminding network members, please contact the Family
Information Service. Or why not try their searchable database
where you can find all types of childcare.
