Edes House

A guide to Edes House
Please see the supporting document below for a guide to Edes
House.
A civil ceremony venue
Edes House is a fine Grade 1 listed
building situated in the centre of Chichester. With plenty of local
parking and easily accessible, it is a wonderful venue for a civil
ceremony.
Photographs may be taken on the front or back steps of the
house, on the back lawn, or if your prefer in the House itself.
Disabled access is available and staff will be on hand to assist
if required. No pets are allowed (with the exception of guide
dogs).
Should you wish a particular piece of music to be played (CD
only) during your ceremony, you must initially discuss this
with the Registrar. Providing the Registrar approves your selection
we have the facilities to play it, and will be happy to discuss
this with you. You will need to produce the relevant piece of music
on CD.
Edes House is licensed for the retail of alcoholic drinks. We
can offer you a range of champagne/sparkling wine or soft drinks
along with a selection of canapes. These need to be booked in
advance and the cost is in addition to the charges for the ceremony
and the use of the House.
Confetti is not allowed in Edes House or on the steps.
Smoking in Edes House is prohibited.
Should you wish further information or would like to view the
House please speak with with Keith Sayers, Wedding
Co-ordinator.

Civil ceremony procedure
Once you have made your provisional
booking or enquiry at Edes House you should contact the
Superintendent Registrar to co-ordinate your specific dates.
Without the presence of the Superintendent Registrar there can be
no marriage and any arrangement for the use of the premises depends
entirely on his or her availability.
As the wedding will be a civil ceremony, no religious music or
connotations will be permitted. Any music, reading, words or
performance which forms part of the ceremony must be secular.
The content of the ceremony must be agreed in advance with the
Superintendent Registrar who will be attending the ceremony. The
list of approved readings is available from the Superintendent
Registrar.
Ceremonies may be held in the Richmond Room or the Foyer, (both
areas are licensed for 80 guests) or the Norfolk Room licensed for
60 guests and the Leconfield Room, similarly licensed for 35
people. Room layout and decoration can be discussed with the House
Manager.
The House Manager will be present on the day as the authorised
person to ensure correct procedures are followed and to ensure the
smooth running of your ceremony.
