Discrimination and harassment based on a person's sexuality or sexual orientation is illegal. You do not have to tolerate it if you are a victim of this. West Sussex County Council, working in partnership, is committed to ensuring everyone living in West Sussex is free from discrimination or harassment irrespective of your person's sexual orientation.
What is a homophobic or transphobic incident?
"…any incident that is perceived to be homophobic or transphobic by the victim or any other person"
Examples of a such an incident might include:
- graffiti and other written insults
- comments based on actual or perceived notions of a person's sexuality or sexual orientation in the course of discussions
- refusal to co-operate with other people because of their sexuality or sexual orientation
- derogatory name calling, insults, 'jokes' and language, making fun
- vandalism or damage to property motivated by homophobia
You can now report homophobic incidents via the Harm Reduction Team at West Sussex County Council. The Harm Reduction Team are working with Victim Support Sussex to provide a Hate Incident Support Service. We want to know where and when homophobic and transphobic incidents happen.
