Centurion Way Railway Path

Centurion Way route
- A route between Chichester and West Dean following the line of
part of the disused Chichester to Midhurst Railway. The route is
linear and is 5 miles (8 km) in length.
Start/finish
- Chichester: near to Bishop Luffa school, Westgate, Chichester.

- West Dean (Grid reference SU 856 122).
For use by
- Walkers and cyclists. Suitable for most wheelchairs and
pushchairs.
Nearest towns
- Chichester, Lavant, West Dean.
Terrain
- Mostly flat or slightly undulating (hilly). Southern section is
tarmacked to north of Lavant. Lavant to Binderton is compacted
stone and the final section, from Binderton to West Dean, is
tarmacked cycle path running alongside the A286.

Other useful information
- The name Centurion Way is based on the fact that the path
crosses the course of a Roman road. Eye catching sculptures
relating to aspects of local history have been provided along the
route.
- The route connects with the South Coast Cycle Route at
Fishbourne where cyclists can continue westwards to visit
Fishbourne Roman Palace and Bosham. Northwards, the route continues
to West Dean House and Gardens and the Weald and Downland Open Air
Museum at Singleton.
