Managing congestion

CongestionTraffic on Britain's roads is increasing all the time. It is estimated that the growth of traffic in West Sussex is likely to increase by another 10% by 2010.

To effectively monitor and manage traffic in West Sussex, we have put in place a number of systems as part of a government initiative to reduce congestion.

With the increases in technology, our ability to monitor and manage the road network in West Sussex has improved significantly.

  • We aim to encourage more sustainable transport options such as walking, cycling and public transport, through provision of Safer Routes to School, cycling facilities and working with public transport providers to improve services and facilities

  • Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) are a range of tools that combine modern computing and communications technologies for transport applications.

  • We are committed to providing you with information on travel options around the county. To help you plan your journey, information on travel (including roadworks) is available.

  • The Travel Information Control Centre at County Hall increases our ability to efficiently manage the use of the highway network and provide reliable traffic and travel information to the travelling public.
