Schools come together for day of song

More than 200 children from in and around
Horsham have visited St John’s Catholic Primary School in the
town’s Blackbridge Lane for the third Year Two Singing
Festival.
Pupils from Castlewood Primary in Southwater,
St Mary’s CofE, Shelley Primary in Broadbridge Heath, Southwater
Infants, Trafalgar Community Infants and Warnham CofE Schools
joined the St John’s children in the annual celebration of song led
by Emily Barden, part of the West Sussex Music Service.
Curriculum leader for primary music in West
Sussex, Alison Sutton, was a guest visitor, and children from each
school performed two individual songs ranging from titles such as
Daydream Believer, Puff the Magic Dragon and Sing a Rainbow to
Jessie J’s Price Tag.
They had also prepared two songs which they
performed together for the first time.
More than two hundred young voices singing in
perfect harmony were a credit to both Emily and teachers from each
of the schools.
The grande finale involved the children
singing a four-part harmony, or ‘sandwich’, and both Emily and
Alison said how impressed they were with the standard of
singing.
