Transport for SEN students
Parents should be encouraged to play an important role in
ensuring the smooth running of their child’s transport arrangements
by:
- making sure that their child is ready for the vehicle at home
or at the pick-up point 5 minutes before the pick-up time
(the transport will wait no more than 5 minutes after the
scheduled pick-up time);
- always being at the set-down point to meet their child at the
end of the day - if a responsible adult is not at home or at the
pick-up point to meet their child, he or she will not be left but
taken to a place of safety;
- advising the escort and/or the driver in respect of any help
required in lifting their child in and out of the vehicle;
- telephoning the contractor as soon as possible if their child
is sick or unable to attend school for any reason;
- advising the escort and/or the driver if there may be a
particular difficulty with their child on a specific day;
- ensuring that their child understands the standard of behaviour
that is expected of him/her, whilst travelling to and from
school;
- ensuring that their child realises that the parent will have to
pay for any damage to the vehicle caused by them; and
- completing any questionnaires requested by the School Transport
Team.
If parents have any concerns or suggestions for improving the
transport arrangements for their child, they should be advised to
discuss them in the first instance with the School Transport
Team.
Parents may also take any matters further by sending a letter
detailing their concerns.
