Changes to local bus services
Most bus routes in West Sussex are operated on a commercial
basis, but some routes are subsidised by the County Council to help
them run.
West Sussex County Council has announced which bus subsidies
have been reduced during the final phase of a three year programme
to reduce non-commercial routes. The savings are part of the County
Council’s drive to save £79 million following significant grant
reductions from central government.
The savings have been implemented as part of a three-phase
process. The first and second phases followed an 'impact
assessment' last year when feedback from members of the public and
other organisations was gathered and taken into account.
The third phase of bus subsidy reductions relates to the bus
user survey which closed earlier this year. The survey gathered
almost 8,250 responses from passengers and local organisations
about how they used the routes. You can find out more about the
outcomes of the survey and the recent changes to bus services from
September 2012 in the supporting documents below.

We have also produced a
community led transport toolkit to help you explore
alternative travel solutions and meet changing transport needs for
you, your family and your community. Our Community Solutions Team
can also arrange support for communities who wish to use the
toolkit to resolve local transport issues or to discuss other
options.
