Fun and Breaks - the FAB service
Caring for a child or young person with a disability is
demanding and, at times, exhausting. Carers need a break from
caring to recharge their batteries in all sorts of different ways.
Finding someone who can take care of their child under these
circumstances can be a major problem.
Our Fun and Breaks (FAB) service
(formerly the Sitting Service) provides volunteer carers for
families with children with disabilities. This allows parents to
take a much needed break from caring. You can find out more about
the service through West Sussex video - you can find our video
under 'People'.
The service aims to provide a family with support for
about four hours every fortnight, at a time that has been
agreed between the family and the volunteer.
Your child disability team social worker can access
the service as part of your family's care plan - you
can find their contact details here.
If you have no existing contact with the County Council we will
arrange for someone to visit you to decide whether the service
is appropriate for your family.
Volunteering with Fun and
Breaks
Volunteering can involve evening sits or daytime care and
activities. It can also include taking children out depending on
the availability of the volunteer and the needs of the children and
their families.
If you think you would like to help a family with a disabled
child and can offer about 4 hours each fortnight to look after
a child in his or her own home, the Fun and Breaks coordinators
would love to hear from you.
