Scrutiny and Select Committees

The County Council has an Executive and Select Committee structure, and in that context is seeking to co-ordinate an information base for all its areas of work. The Select Committee initiative plays a crucial part in this process.

Select Committees are the principal means by which the Executive is held to account. They also assist in the development of County Council policy by looking at existing policies and the effectiveness of their delivery, including reviewing whether new policies or changes to existing policies are needed. The guiding principle for the work of the Select Committees is that they should be consensual and positive rather than adversarial and negative.

Select Committees are supported by the Scrutiny Team.

All Select Committee meetings are held in public and you are always welcome to attend. Copies of the agendas, minutes and various reports produced by the committees are available on this website.
