Beacon Council Award
West Sussex County Council with its partners has recently been presented with the coveted Beacon Award for Positive Youth Engagement (in the community and democratic process).
The Beacon scheme is organised by the Department for Communities and Local Government together with the Improvement and Development Agency and aims to celebrate and promote excellence and innovation in local government.
Each year a number of themes are chosen which are considered to be of importance both nationally and locally. Councils that apply must go through a rigorous assessment process including receiving a visit from a panel of experts. The scheme has been running for six years and over that period 336 awards have been given from more than 1660 applications received. West Sussex is very proud to have received five awards for a number of themes:-
2001/2 Accessible Services
2001/2 Tackling Youth Drugs Misuse
2004/5 Crime and Disorder Partnership
2005/6 Integrated Children's Services
2006/7 Positive Youth Engagement (in the community and democratic process)
