Development Control
Broadly, development control is the process that regulates the development and use of land, involving the granting or refusing
of applications for planning permission by the county council or the district and borough councils.
The role
of the development control in highways
Planning authorities consult the county council as the Highway Authority on the highway and transport issues relating to development proposals. We then advise the planning authorities accordingly. We also advise applicants, prior to submission of a planning application, on the likely highway and transport requirements of their proposals. We recommend to the planning authority whether there are highway or transport reasons why planning applications should be granted, granted with conditions, or refused.
