Walking, Cycling and Horseriding
West Sussex offers some of the finest walking, cycling and horse riding country in the British Isles.
To explore here is to wander into some of the quietest corners of Southern England and to discover landscapes of great beauty, which have inspired generations of writers, poets and artists. The glories of the southern chalk downland combine magically with the remote ridges and basins of the greensand country, the hidden valleys and dense woodland of the High Weald and a coastal plain of resorts and secluded harbours.
These pages introduce the network of over 2,500 miles (4022 km) of West Sussex paths and bridleways. For those armed with Ordnance Survey maps and a thirst for exploration, it describes long distance trails, carefully marked for your enjoyment.
However far you travel, please remember to wear suitable clothing and appropriate footwear.
