07. Recruitment
The Wholetime firefighter recruitment campaign for 2008 is now closed.
Should you have missed the opportunity to apply this time please watch our webpages for details of our next recruitment campaign.
Our Workforce
West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service wants an inclusive workforce that lives out the Service’s values and which can help fulfil our duties to promote equality and reduce unlawful discrimination.
A workforce that reflects the rich diversity of the communities it serves, drawn from the widest possible pool of talents, with relevant and high quality skills and knowledge.
A workforce that constantly exceeds our customers’ expectations – strengthening trust and improving services.
A firefighter can be employed on either a Wholetime shift system or on the Retained Duty System.
In this section you will find out the skills and attributes you will need, and you can complete an on-line questionnaire to see if you have the potential to be a successful firefighter.
The modern fire service is not just about uniformed firefighters, and equally important are the people who work in non-operational roles, and those who provide essential service support. When available, these jobs will be advertised on the Jobs and Careers section of the West Sussex County Council website.
Staff groups
We have active staff groups for employees who identify as:
• BME (Black Minority Ethnic)
• LGBTI (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex)
• Disabled
Positive Action
From time to time we run positive action events to encourage people from certain under-represented backgrounds and identities to apply to West Sussex Fire & Rescue Service. These are advertised as and when they occur.
