The High Weald

The High Weald is a historic landscape of rolling hills incised by deep valleys covered by small irregular fields, abundant ancient woodland and hedges, scattered farmsteads and sunken lanes. These features form a rich variety of habitats that are abundant in wildlife. The High Weald area runs through West Sussex, East Sussex, Surrey and Kent to form the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, designated in 1983.

The area is further enriched by locally and nationally important features including sandstone outcrops, historic gardens, deer parks and veteran trees.
