Sustainability
‘If something is sustainable we can go on doing it indefinitely, if it isn’t we can’t.’ Jonathon Porritt
Through local action, we can all choose to ensure that whatever we do today will improve the quality of life, both for people now and for generations to come.
This doesn't just mean improving the quality of life for yourself and your loved ones, but for everyone: for those in your neighbourhood, village, town, city, workplace or school and for people elsewhere in the world. It means thinking about the needs of economies, communities and the environment equally when we make decisions.
Changing our way of thinking, and embracing the idea of sustainability is in all of our best interests. This area of the website covers the things you might want to know about sustainable development, and links to the many different aspects of the County Council’s work that relate to sustainability.
