Planning
Planning responsibilities in West Sussex are split between the county council and the district/borough councils.
As a county council, we are responsible for:
- preparing minerals and waste policy documents for the Minerals and Waste Development Framework;
- dealing with planning applications for minerals, waste, and the county council’s own development;
- monitoring minerals, waste, and the county council’s development (including compliance and enforcement);
- highways and transport planning.
District and borough councils are responsible for:
- preparing a Local Development Framework;
- dealing with planning applications for all development other than minerals, waste, and the county council’s own development;
- building regulations.
Extensive information about planning is available on the Planning Portal and in a section on repairs, planning, and building regulations on Directgov.
