Local Area Agreement 2

A Local Area Agreement (LAA) is a contract between central and local government to deliver a balance of national priorities together with the priorities of local people. West Sussex has had an LAA since April 2006.

West Sussex County Council leads on the development of the LAA for the county of West Sussex, but all public services in West Sussex are involved, as well as voluntary organisations, private companies and users of local services.

These organisations collectively form the Public Service Board (PSB). The PSB has set up an Executive Committee (PSBE) to oversee the LAA.

The Second LAA for West Sussex (2008-2011) was signed off by West Sussex County Council on behalf of all partners on 28th May 2008, and received Ministerial sign-off on 30th June 2008.

It sets out the key priorities for West Sussex in the next three years, and will be monitored via a set of three year targets.

A full ‘Refresh’ of the document was completed at the end of March 2009. This was an opportunity to review priorities in the light of the longer term Sustainable Community Strategy, which was published in October 2008. During the refresh targets were also set for indicators where a verified baseline was not available when LAA 2 was initially agreed.

The reward element of the first West Sussex LAA (2006-2009) ran alongside the new LAA until March 2009.
