Press Release

Gardeners in West Sussex are being urged to be compost crafty during the next Bank Holiday weekend by cashing in on a special offer that’ll save them money and help the environment.

Better Tomorrows, an independent community interest group, is offering West Sussex residents the opportunity to buy a home composter from as little as £17 and have it delivered to their door.

It is making the offer on behalf of West Sussex County Council and all District and Borough Councils as part of the Home Composting Initiative.

The scheme is funded by the nationwide Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) and West Sussex County Council.

Marie Bracken, County Council Waste Prevention Officer, said: “Households in England throw away around four million tonnes of waste every year that could have been composted.

“When this waste is sent to landfill it breaks down and produces methane, a powerful global warming gas.

“Composting not only stops this waste going to landfill, it also produces a free fertiliser and soil improver that can be used on flowerbeds, plots and window boxes.

“All sorts of garden and raw kitchen waste can be composted - from vegetable peelings to egg shells.

“Food waste and grass, straw, prunings and even shredded paper,
which cannot be recycled by conventional means, all help to make a rich compost.

You can get your reduced rate compost bins by visiting www.bettertomorrows.org.uk or calling 0845 076 0223. All prices include delivery.

Ends…
