West Sussex County Council: Local Design Guide

The Local Design Guide provides supplementary guidance for residential development proposals and was formally adopted in January 2008.

We produced the guide in response to the publication of the Manual for Streets (MfS) published in March 2007.  The MfS provides national technical guidance primarily in relation to the design of lightly trafficked residential streets although there is scope for it to be used for lightly trafficked lanes, high streets, and other appropriate environments.

Our Local Design Guide provides advice on how MfS is to be interpreted and applied within West Sussex and should therefore be read in conjunction with MfS itself. This approach is supported by the Local Planning Authorities (LPAs) within the County.
