Possible transfer of management of Pagham Harbour LNR

Years of under-funding from central government together with the recession have made it inevitable that the Council is going to have to make difficult choices about prioritising what services it funds in the future.

Transferring the management of Pagham Harbour to the RSPB would safeguard the future of the nature reserve and would make a necessary financial saving for the Council. The change would not substantially change the look or feel of Pagham Harbour, nor change the protection it receives.

These negotiations are progressing well and continue to involve a wide range of stakeholders. Our ambition is to sign an agreement with RSPB in April 2011, but there is much work to do to make that happen.

In the meantime, it is 'business as normal'. There are many questions that we do not yet have answers to, but the Q&As on the next page provide the background so far.

We welcome your views but can only accept feedback in writing. The feedback period opens on 31 July and continues until 4 September.
