What is a Housing Market Assessment?
The Housing Market Assessment (HMA) establishes the long-term aims for housing supply and demand in West Sussex up to 2026. It provides local authorities with a better understanding of their housing markets and a robust evidence base for new planning and housing policies.
A county-wide HMA has been produced to consider:
- why people choose to live where they do;
- what factors drive the housing markets in West Sussex;
- the need for affordable housing as well as homes to be sold and rented on the open market;
- past, current, and future housing trends;
- how people might expect to live in the future, taking into account projected changes in population, household formations, and developments in the local economy across the county.
- the rural housing market;
- affordability of housing;
- the growth in the number of people buying to let;
- those having second homes;
- the housing needs of older people and those with special needs.
