Development and Enforcement

To look at details of planning applications dealt with by the county council (minerals and waste, and the County's own applications for libraries, schools, care homes, etc) or to submit an application online, visit our online planning applications page.

The county council is responsible for the following development and enforcement activities:

  • Dealing with all applications involving minerals and waste, and providing free advice and guidance. (Find out how to submit planning applications online.)

  • Dealing with requests for Screening and Scoping Opinions under the Town and Country Planning (Environmental Impact Assessment) (England and Wales) Regulations 1999, prior to the submission of a planning application.

  • Dealing with the county council's own applications (Regulation 3), mainly for education and care home developments.

  • Giving advice to district and borough councils as the Strategic Planning Authority.

  • Dealing with unauthorised development and breaches of control at authorised sites.  (Find out more on our compliance and enforcement pages.)

  • Ensuring that conditions are monitored and enforced at authorised sites and dealing with other infringements in respect of planning matters.   (Find out more on our compliance and enforcement pages.)

The Statutory Register lists applications under consideration or applications decided.

Planning Aid is a free voluntary service offering independent professional advice to enable local communities, especially those with limited resources, to engage effectively in planning decisions which may affect their area. It aims to give people the confidence to help themselves and to become involved in wider planning issues.
