Action Against Bullying Guidance

The first West Sussex anti-bullying guidelines for schools and their communities was launched on 20th June.

This guidance has been in development for the past year in consultation with a wide range of agencies, schools, young people and other key partners. Considerable research and work has been undertaken to select tools and strategies that are deemed to be most effective when challenging bullying behaviour. This guidance complements the DfES “Don’t Suffer in Silence” and other national Anti-Bullying strategies. It gives clear recommendations on the processes schools and youth organisations should go through to develop a community that challenges bullying behaviour.

Printed copies of the guidance are being sent to all schools and key partners in the County. It is also available here as a downloadable resource.

The guidance will be referred to in all Action Against Bullying training and in Headteacher seminars in the Autumn.

A resource such as this has been requested from schools and partners for some time and it is our vision that this document will tie together the good work of all professionals who support young people with issues around bullying.

It is intended that the guidance will be added to and updated – for example when new national guidelines are made available on topics such as ‘cyberbullying’. Such updates will also appear here, so check back from time to time to see what’s new.
